Pomegranates and Cheesecloth

Hi Kat! These works are absolutely beautiful so far. I’m especially finding myself enamoured by the progression of stains on the cheesecloth — they create such a lovely change in colour and temperature, while adding new forms and shapes to the photos. When I look at this work, I’m reminded of free association and rorschach tests (possibly because of the stains), and I like that I feel like I need to keep staring at these pieces! The composition of these images is strong too, I’m enjoying the way your subjects get cropped by the frame in a way that almost abstracts them. I think you might be able to push this abstraction further, and as a next step, find a way to combine the ambiguity of the first two photos with the compositions of the bottom four. Overall, great work!! I’m so excited to see your final piece and where you end up taking this idea.
Hi Kat! These pieces are lovely. I capture so many different meanings through these and in each piece. I love the drapery in these pieces and the use of the dye from the pomegranate. I am really enjoying the progression of these works, from mostly cheesecloth and whiteness, then to more and more dye on the cheesecloth, then the slow appearance of the pomagrante. Overall these works are very successful and the use of shadows created within the cloth is lovely, although I would love to see more contrast in colours, with some more darkness, this could be why I’m more drawn to the ones with pomagrantes because of the contrast between them and the white of the cheese cloth. In the works without the pomegranate I find them quite light and sort of washed out, the pomegranate brings a darkness and interest.
