Subject X – Physical Embodiments of Identity

Hi Sophie! I love the idea of your subject X, especially as someone who loves body modification! The first thing I’ve noticed is that you’ve really managed to capture intimacy, especially through the closeness of the shots, warmth of the colour palette, and direction of your subjects. The intermingling of hands and hair and body parts makes me feel simultaneously uncomfortable and warm, as if I’m looking in on an intimate moment between strangers. I think this is a huge strength of these works, and I’m especially interested in the bottom photo which has great balance. Going forward, I think you should continue experimenting with compositions. The top left photo is the least exciting to me, simply because it’s next to other photos that push your concept further in terms of how they’re composed and how they use the natural contours of the body. Having said that, I’m still really inspired by these images and very excited to see the final result!
Heyo Sophie!!! Obsessed with these dimly lit images about visible idenity. With focus on skin tone and texture, these gentle images let us in to an intimate view of the subjects world. Being so close to the subject, you can see such detail of the warmth and coolness of skin, and details of stretch marks and their itty bitty hairs, you can almost feel the persons physical presence, which is highly captivating and demands our human connection, which further supports your subject of idenity and human connection/ culture. The dim light gives a tenderness to the images, while the higher contrast in some almost makes the eye fall through the darkest sections, or creates a harsh line between the forms. Depending on the meaning of the photograph, this can ether boost or break the concept you’re trying to get accross. The dark areas allow us to better focus on the areas of light, directing our eye to the elements you wish us to focus on, which was used very effectively to lead us into bodily additions. Very amazing and well done!!! :DDD
(Please ignore my grammar lol my Grammarly broke and Im V dyslexic lololol)
Great captured tattoos with a sensitivity and details decorating hands and body. I am very impressed how you have captured the jewelry and piercing of ears. The flowing of the hair looks like waves on the ocean, great composition.
