Hi Klas! I’m really drawn in by your emphasis of materiality and turning the act of taking photos into the focal point of this work! The last two photos in this thread are particularly catching my eye. The shot of the studio is lit so beautifully, it almost feels as though it’s a still from a play. The bottom photo is also really eye-catching through its use of shape and line. I especially like the detail of including the binder clip at the top to call back to the overall theme of the materials we use to take photos that runs throughout each of these images. The limited colour palette also calls back to a recurring theme of analog photography in these works, and I like the use of warm browns and beiges to break up the black and white. Going forward, I think it would be cool to explore the double exposure effect that you’ve used on the bottom photo with more compositions — for example, while interesting on their own, the first and third image might become stronger if combined with other photos. But overall, I love these images and the idea behind your subject X, and am super excited to see where you take the idea!
Hey Klas, I’m really enjoying your use of black and white photography. The use of the spiral object creates an interesting dynamic, which the viewer can focus on the shadows it casts. It also makes you want to know more about the man, know about his life and his story. The direction this image is taking is great and I think you should explore this more. The photo with your hand in it is strong. I wish your hand wasn’t in the image so that the viewer could really focus on the images within the photo. The lines and printed out photos create interesting shapes within the work. I also enjoy the photo of your set up, the environment that you created is very compelling. Personally, I think you should focus on creating an environment within your images, creating a story would be great. You could also use blur within your work to create more dynamic photos. I think you have a lot of great stuff to work with here!
