    Hi Kaitlin!
I’m so sorry you have to say goodbye to gluten! That being said, this is a powerful farewell. I particularly like the black images using flour; there is good contrast in these images. All four images are compositionally very strong, utilizing both movement and the rule of thirds to keep the viewer’s eyes moving about the image. I particularly enjoy the last image of the hand print for its composition, I find my eye starts at the hand and moves outward following the flour. With that in mind, I love the idea of the picnic spread of gluten, however, I feel as though there is potential to make these images stronger by utilizing a different lighting setup that doesn’t cast shadows across the other objects, or maybe a more dramatic lighting? I feel like the concept is interesting, but feel there is a possibility for a more exciting composition, maybe laying the objects out on the blanket and photographing that? Overall, they are very well done and I’m excited to see what more you come up with!

Hi Kaitlin! I really enjoy the combination of images you chose, demonstrating the relationship between the disease itself and your personal response to it. The object is one thing, however, I can understand your feelings better on the subject at hand through your incorporation of interactive body language. The last few images struck me the most as I could understand your frustration and unsettlingness through the messiness of the flour and how you handled it in the photo. Incorporating more interactive hand movements within the first few still-life photos could be worth exploring!

Hi Kaitlin, I really like your photos especially the elaborate sets and framing of the picnic photos. I also really like the use of symbolism throughout like the portrait style something that can be associated with nostalgia now being flipped to represent something you will look back to fondly. I also really like the emotional expression shown in the photos especially the one of you smashing the cake, there is something really surreal about it. I think it would be really cool to experiment with trying to recreate those photos without any shadow, I don’t think the light shadows are bad but I would like to see weather stripping the shadows might give the photos an even more surreal and maybe even soft feeling. Other than that I really like your work, especially the smashing cake photo it’s definitely one of my favourite and i’m really excited to see your final results.
