Hi Natalie!
I love your subject X so much because it really falls in line with who you are and who you are as a photographer. I like that you experimented with different compositions and different environments! After looking through all your photos here, I keep going back to the first photo. The placement of each item just seems so intentional and I can sense your own passion for the sport through it. I think the snow that is left behind on mostly the helmet but also all around the photo really adds a sense of genuineness behind this work. Initially, my eye is sort of guided through the image from the “NTRAL YORK” to your last name on the back of the jersey but as I follow along, I start notice all the different details like the skates in the two corners and the stickers on the helmet. This subject X feels like a conceptual self-portrait and I appreciate those little details that make this photograph yours. I think the last photo is the least intriguing for me just because it feels too much like a standard media day photo compared the the rest of them. I think these personal items of yours speak louder and more passionate on their own! I’m really excited to see where this goes!! -
Hey Natalie! I’m really enjoying the direction your photos are headed, especially the first and third ones! The way the objects all create a clear vision of your subject, while not being too obvious is really successful. Though I do really like the last one (there’s a cool sense of mystery created by not having the subject face the camera), I feel more drawn to the ones that collage and abstract the gear. Moving forward, I think it might be interesting to strip away the gear itself and focus on less literal depictions of hockey gear: scratches on ice, the patterns in jersey material, tape around a hockey stick. Of course that’s all a suggestion, and what you’re doing so far is really great! I can’t wait to see your final piece and where you take this idea for the next assignment!!

I really like how your photos came out, and I think the quality of them are great! The photos are so clear, you can see all the snow very well and I think it adds a really nice touch of detail, almost as if these were taken immediately after the model was skating. I enjoy the composition of your photos, and I think my favourite is the ones with the helmet, skates, and jersey with the darker background. I also really like the last image with the back of the model, and I think it would be really interesting to explore that idea more!

Hey Natalie, I love how your work is coming along. Your use of collage is very intriguing and I think you can play around with it in many ways. I really enjoy the addition of snow in some of your photos, I think adding that element really brings life to your work. The image of the figure is strong, I like that your hair is within the images which highlight the importance of supporting women in sports. I also really enjoy the use of the darker background; it really allows the objects to shine within the photos. I think that you could try shooting with the micro lens to focus on the smaller details. Looking at the skate blades, the tape on your hockey stick, or the stickers on your helmet could be a few areas to look at. Overall I love your subject theme and I can’t wait to see the final work!
